Taliban Comfirm 48-Hour Ceasefire with Pakistan Following Deadly Clashes
Tawazon – The Taliban has confirmed that a 48-hour temporary ceasefire with Pakistan, set to take effect this evening, after several days of intense cross-border clashes along the Durand Line.
In a statement shared with local media in Kabul, Taliban officials said the ceasefire was agreed upon at Pakistan’s request and would begin after 5:30 pm today.
“At the request and insistence of the Pakistani side, a ceasefire will take effect between the two countries from 5:30 pm today,” the statement said.
“The Islamic Emirate has instructed all its forces to observe the ceasefire as long as there is no violation from the other side,” it added.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani government has also announced that it has accepted the Taliban government’s proposal for a ceasefire along the Durand Line areas.
The announcement comes after Pakistan conducted what it called “precision strikes” in Kandahar and Kabul against what it described as militant targets. The Taliban rejected Pakistan’s justification, accusing Islamabad of cross-border aggression and targeting civilians.
The border situation remains fragile as both sides have continued to reinforce military positions near keycrossing points, including Spin Boldak and Torkham. There are also reports of civilian displacement in border areas following recent artillery exchanges.
However, local sources from Afghanistan’s Khost province report that Pakistani militias have fired rockets at civilian homes in the area.
According to the reports, the Pakistani side targeted civilian homes with rocket fire. So far, no exact figures have been released regarding casualties from last fighting.
