Asif Durrani: “No One Wants the Taliban’s Islam in Pakistan”
Tawazon – Pakistan’s former special representative on Afghanistan, Asif Durrani, said that the ideological divide between Pakistan and the Taliban has become clearly visible, emphasizing that “no one wants the Taliban’s Islam in Pakistan.”
In a post on X, on Thursday, November 27, Durrani wrote that “the ideological divide between the Taliban and Pakistanis is quite visible; no one wants the Taliban’s Islam in Pakistan. Therefore, the verdict of Pakistanis is clear: no more romance with the Taliban.”
His remarks come amid rising tensions between Islamabad and the Taliban, relations between the two sides, once close allies, have sharply deteriorated over the past four years.Islamabad accuses the Taliban of allowing Pakistani militant groups, including Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) t operate from Afghan soil and launch attacks inside Pakistan.
But the Taliban deny this, repeatedly saying TTP is Pakistan’s internal problem and that they will not allow any militant group to operate from Afghanistan.
