Education Ban on Afghan Girls Threatens the Future of a Generation
Tawazon – Four years after millions of Afghan girls were barred from attending school, international organizations and public figures are once again urging the global community to prioritize girls’ education in Afghanistan.
Al Jazeera journalist Foley Bah wrote on social media that the ban on Afghan girl’s education must remain aglobal concern. “The issue of Afghanistan and its out-of-school girls deserves a special place on the international agenda. We cannot forget or abandon these brave Afghan women and girls who are still denied the right to learn,” she said.
Meanwhile, the global education fund Education Cannot Wait (ECW) launched a campaign under the hashtag #HearTheVoicesOfAfghanGirls, calling on donor countries nd international institutions to take urgent and practical steps to ensure access to education for Afghan girls.
According to ECW, millions of girls in Afghanistan remain deprived of schooling, a crisis that poses severe threat to the country’s long term stability and the future of its next generation.
The campaign, promoted under the slogans #KeepHopeAlive and #222MillionDreams, aims to refocus global attention on every child’s right to education, especially the right of Afghan girls to learn, dream and shape their country’s future.
