Karzai Urges Reopening of Schools for Girls on World Science Day
Tawazon – Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has expressed hope that schools and universities will soon reopen for girls, marking World Science Day for Peace and Development, a day that highlights the vital role of education and science in promoting peace and sustainable development globally.
In a message posted on X, Karzai wrote: “Afghanistan, like other societies needs education and knowledge. The country can only overcome its challenges and achieve progress and self-reliance if access to learning and educational opportunities is available to all.”
He called on young Afghans, both girls and boys, to make use of every possible opportunity to pursue education and knowledge. Karzai emphasized that through the awareness adn efforts of educated youth, Afghanistan can achieve lasting peace and sustainable development.
This statement comes amid ongoing restrictions that for the past four years, have barred Afghan girls and women from attending schools and universities, denying them their fundamental right to education.
