Mortar explosion claims couple’s lives in Kandahar
Tragedy struck in Kandahar as a couple fell victim to the explosion of an unexploded mortar shell, according to local sources.
The incident occurred on Monday, May 20, in a house located in Takhtapul district.
Reports indicate that the explosion occurred when the husband and wife stumbled upon the mortar shell, leading to the fatal outcome.

The event echoes similar incidents across the country, with recent casualties reported from explosions involving unexploded ordnance.
Just two days prior, four individuals, including three children, lost their lives in Balkh and Badghis provinces due to similar circumstances.
Highlighting the ongoing threat, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) previously revealed that nearly 45,000 individuals have been killed in explosions caused by unexploded landmines from past conflicts in the country.
UNAMA underscores the persistent danger posed by mines and unexploded ordnance, especially to the lives of Afghan children.
