Over 3,500 Afghan Migrants Returned From Neighboring Countries in One Day
Tawazon – Taliban officials say that 3,574 Afghan migrants were returned from neighboring countries to Afghanistan over the past day.
Many of those returning are now facing an uncertain future and serious economic challenges upon arival.
Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban said in a statement on Saturday, June 6, that 682 families entered Afghanistan through various border crossings.
According to him, 631 families, totaling 3,338 people returned through the Torkham crossing.
In addition, 18 families returned via the Spin Boldak crossing, 19 families through Nimroz province and 14 familie through the Islam Qala crossing in Herat
Many returnees are reportedly struggling with a lack of shelter, unemployment and difficult living conditions.
Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly warned that the growing number of returnees is increasing pressure on Afghanistan’s limited resources, public services and aid systems.
In recent months the forced deportation and return of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan and Iran, has increased, forcing thousands of families to return after years abroad.
