FAO: Restoring Forests and Rangelands Can Strengthen Livelihoods in Afghanistan
Tawazon – The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) says restoring forests and rangelands in Afghanistan can create economic opportunities for local communities and help strengthen food security and resilience against climate change.
In a message posted on X on Friday, June 5, FAO said that with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), communities in Afghanistan are working to improve food security and nutrition, strengthen livelihoods and increase resilience to climate change.
The organization added that restoring forests and grazing lands means creating new opportunities for local communities.
According to FAO, these programs are part of efforts to restore natural resource and support sustainable living in different parts of Afghanistan.
The organization also stressed that the destruction of forests and rangelands in recent years has had negative effects on people’s livelihoods and the environment in Afghanistan
FAO says continuing such programs can play an important role in strengthening local economies, improving food security and reducing vulnerability of communites to climate change in Afghanistan.
