Over 9,000 Palestinians Reported Missing in Gaza Since 2023
Tawazon – More than 9,500 Palestinians have gone missing since the beginning of Israel’s war in Gaza in 2023, according to a human rights organization in Palestine.
Al Jazeera reported on Thursday, June 4, that the figures were released by the Al-Dameer Human Rights Association, which stated that the missing include thousands of women and children.
According to the report, around 8,100 people are believed to be trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings.
It added that 250 people have gone missing near aid distribution centers, and more than 800 were detained at military checkpoints while traveling from northern to southern Gaza.
The human rights group also said that the fate of 350 Palestinians who entered Israeli territory on October 7, 2023, remains unknown.
Al-Dameer emphasized that enforced disappearance is a crime against humanity and said the situation represents one of the most complex humanitarian crises caused by the ongoing war.
The organization called for immediate international intervention to compel Israel to release Palestinian detainees and return remains, while establishing genetic database for victim identification.
