UN Women: 50,000 Women and Girls in Afghanistan Are at Risk of Gender-Based Violence
Tawazon – UN Women has warned that around 50,000 women and girls in conflict-affected areas of Afghanistan are at risk of gender-based violence.
In a report released on Monday, the organization said that women and girls living in areas affected by border clashes and natural disasters are among the most vulnerable groups.
According to the report, women and girls who already face severe restrictions on their rights and freedom of movement under Taliban rule have been further impacted by recent insecurity and humanitarian crises.Those affected by last year’s earthquake in eastern Afghanistan continue to face significant challenges.
UN Women said warned to healthcare and other essential services remains limited for many women in these areas, leaving them at greater risk and making it difficult to receive the support they need.
The organization also expressed concern about the situation of pregnant women, noting that many are struggling with food shortages, hunger, and limited access to medical services. According to the report, these conditions have created serious health risks for both mothers and newborn babies.
