Tawazon – The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) says that during a recent meeting with members of the UK Parliament, the UK’s Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Network, and officials from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), British authorities reiterated their continued support for women and girls in Afghanistan.
In a statement posted on X, UNFPA confirmed that the United Kingdom remains committed to backing the agency’s programmes in Afghanistan, including maternal healthcare services and psychosocial support for women and girls.
According to UNFPA, British officials assured the delegation that the UK “will continue to stand with Afghan women and girls” and will maintain its support for improving their health, well being and access to essential services.UNFPA’s London office also issued separate statement reaffirming Britain’s commitment to supporting life-saving services for Afghan women.
These assurances come at a time when the Taliban’s escalating restrictions on women’s education, employment and social participation have deepened concerns about their safety and well-being.
