AMSO: Journalism Is Not a Crime; Pakistan Must Release Detained Afghan Journalists
Tawazon – The Afghanistan Media Support Organization (AMSO) has condemned the arrest of four Afghan journalists by police in Islamabad, calling it a “direct attack on press freedom.”
In a statement, AMSO said journalism is not a crime but a vital tool for amplifying people’s voices and reporting the truth. The organization warned that any form of pressure, threats or unlawful arrests seriously harms journalists’ safety and their ability to work independently.
AMSO once again urged the government and security agencies of Pakistan to release the detained journalists immediately and unconditionally and to treat Afghan journalists,who have fled to Pakistan to escape crisis with dignity and respect.
The organization added that Afghan refugees in Pakistan face a “deeply painful” situation, as visa extensions have been blocked while arrests continue.
AMSO also called on international media and civil society organizations t take “urgent and immediate action” to address the worsening conditions faced by Afghan journalists in Pakistan.
