UN Women: Women-Led Groups in Afghanistan Need More Support
Tawazon- UN Women says that women-led organizations in Afghanistan continue to support women facing violence or at risk, despite shrinking budgets, severe movement restrictions and rising threats.
In a post on its official X account, the agency stated that these organizations are on the front lines of supporting women and girls, playing a crucial role in helping survivors of violence.According to UN Women, their work has become even more important given the difficult circumstances in the country.
UN Women added that on average, women-led organizations in Afghanistan lost about 20% of their funding this year and 60% of them were forced to reduce the number of projects they carry out because of aid cuts.
During the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, UN Women stressed tht the international community must invest in these Afghan women-led organizations so they can continue and expand their support for women and girls.
