Bennett Calls for Stronger Global Action to Protect Afghan Human Rights
Tawazon – Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Afghanistan, announced on X, that he is traveling to Doha, Qatar, on November 30, 2025, for a four day visit to discuss Afghanistan’s human rights crisis.
According to a statement from the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR), Bennett will meet with Qatari officials, international diplomats and Afghan residents about the state of human rights in Afghanistan. The goal of these meetings is to explore how countries n the region and beyond can better support the rights of the Afghan people.
The UN Human Rights Council unanimously extended Bennett’s mandate in October 2025.His visit to Doha is part of his broader efforts to build a coordinated international response to human rights challenges in Afghanistan. Bennett has emphasized that using “all available tools” is essential to improve the human rights situation for all Afghans.
