Taliban Collecting Textbooks from Girls’ Schools
Tawazon – Local sources in Kabul say that the Taliban have begun collecting books for grades 7 to 12 from girls’ schools. the books are being transferred to boys’ schools after collection, sources said.
Teachers and education rights activists see this move as a sign of the lack of intent to reopen girls’ schools and describe it as another step toward the continued deprivation of girls’ education.
After the Taliban took power in Afghanistan, schools have remained closed to girls above grade six. With the start of the 1404 (2025) academic year, the number of girls deprived of education has reached 2.2 million.
International organizations have warned that if this situation continues, up to four million girls could be out of school by 2030.
