UN Urges Trump to Review Decision to Suspend Foreign Aid
The United Nations has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to review his decision to suspend all foreign aid for three months.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concern over the suspension and urged the U.S. to consider exceptions for critical humanitarian and development assistance.
UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric emphasized the need for these aids to reach vulnerable communities worldwide and not be halted.
Following his inauguration, President Trump suspended all foreign aid for 90 days, except for military assistance to Israel and Egypt.
This decision is part of a broader review to ensure that aid programs align with the “America First” agenda. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has initiated this review, leading to a freeze on new funding for nearly all U.S. aid programs worldwide.
Experts have noted that this suspension has negatively impacted the economic situation, causing a drop in the value of the Afghan currency against the dollar and a significant rise in the prices of food and fuel.
Concurrently, the Central Bank of Afghanistan has auctioned millions of dollars to stabilize the Afghan currency.
