Pakistani Police Detain Four Afghan Journalists in Targeted Raid in Islamabad
Tawazon – Local sources in Islamabad told Tawazon that Pakistani police detained four Afghan journalists on Monday, 17 November, during a special operation and transferred them to a migrant camp.
According to the sources, police officers wearing civilian clothes arrived at the journalists’ residence in a large vehicle and detained them without providing any clear explanation.Due to security concerns, the identities of the journalists and the media outlets they worked for cannot be disclosed.
Sources warn that the detainees face a high risk of deportation, a move that, they say, could put their lives in grave danger.
Pakistan has significantly accelerated the expulsion of Afghan migrants in recent weeks while refusing to extend visas for many Afghans. In several cases,Afghan migrants have been released only after paying bribes to police, those unable to pay are taken to camps and deported shortly afterward.
The four detained journalists have been directly transferred to a camp and their fate in the coming days remains unclear.
This incident has raised new concerns about the situation of thousands of Afghan refugees in Pakistan, particularly journalists and other vulnerable groups who fear forced return due t serious security threats in Afghanistan.
