Amnesty International: Taliban Have Made Life “Intolerable” for Afghan Women and Girls
Tawazon — Amnesty International has condemned the Taliban’s continued oppression of women and girls in Afghanistan, saying they have been “erased from almost all spheres of life” and stripped of their fundamental rights and dignity.
In a post on X on Thursday, November 13, the rights organization said the Taliban’s systematic restrictions have made life “intolerable” for women and girls, warning that the ongoing policies will severely limit women’s access to essential health care and other basic services. “This will severely restrict women’s access to vital health care.”
“The world must act in solidarity with the courageous women and girls of Afghanistan”, Amnesty International urged, calling on the international community to advocate for their rights and hold the Taliban de facto authorities accountable.
Since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021, women and girls have been banned from education beyond primary school, barred from most employment and excluded from public life, measures that have drawn global condemnation for their devastating impact on half of the country’s population.
