UNAMA: Education is the Basic Right of Every Child; No Afghan Girl Should Be Deprived of It
Tawazon – The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has appreciated the Valuable role of Afghan teachers in shaping future generations and promoting knowledge.
In a statement released late on Sunday, October 5, UNAMA praised the resilience and dedication of Afghan teachers, describing them as the steadfast pillars of hope and knowledge who continue to the educate new generations despite the immense challenges and hardship.
On this day, we honor and appreciate Afghan teachers who, through their knowledge, commitment and perseverance, have kept the light of education burning in the heart of darkness. They are inspiring a society that remains hopeful for a better future, UNAMA stated.
Reiterating that education is the basic right of every child, UNAMA emphasized that access the education must be ensured for every Afghan girl and boy without discrimination or restriction. The organization warned that depriving millions of Afghan girls from education endangers not only their individual futures, but also the future of the entire society.
UNAMA further added that investing in education, particularly in girls education, is the key to sustainable development and a peaceful future for Afghanistan. It called on all parties to continue supporting teachers and the national education system.
Since Taliban came to power in August 2021, widespread restrictions have been imposed on the education of women and girls in Afghanistan. Currently, girls above the sixth grade are banned from attending school and university education for women has also been suspended. These decisions have drawn strong condemnation from the international community, human rights organizations and the people of Afghanistan.
