Four Thousand Children Diagnose Cancer Worldwide Each Year
Tawazon – On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) has published a report that approximately 400,000 children and adolescents (aged 0–19) are diagnosed with cancer each year. The most common types include leukemia, brain tumors, lymphoma, and other tumors such as neuroblastoma and Wilms tumor.
The report states that in high-income countries, the childhood cancer treatment rate is 80%, while in low- and middle-income countries, this rate is less than 30%.
The organization emphasizes that early diagnosis, access to essential medicines and a sustainable cancer care infrastructure are necessary to improve survival rates, especially in low-income countries.
