Afghan National Arrested in San Diego on Terrorism Charges as U.S. Immigration Crackdown Intensifies
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced on Thursday, January 30, 2025, that they had arrested an Afghan national in San Diego, California, on suspicion of terrorism.
The arrest took place on Monday, January 27, 2025, though the news was made public by ICE on Thursday.
While ICE did not provide further details about the identity of the Afghan national, they confirmed that the individual would be deported.
This arrest comes amid intensified immigration enforcement under the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, who, in his second term, has ramped up efforts to carry out what he has called “the largest deportation in American history.”
In his first week in office, Trump signed a series of executive orders aimed at bolstering border security and expediting mass deportations.
ICE reported the arrest of 1,179 individuals on Monday, January 27, and the issuance of 853 immigration detainers.
Additionally, President Trump has authorized the construction of a 30,000-bed detention facility at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba to hold immigrants caught in the expanding deportation efforts.
