Iran and Taliban dispute Over Border Wall Construction
Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister, has highlighted ongoing disputes with the Taliban regarding the establishment of border lines. He emphasized that the border wall, constructed by Iran, serves purely security purposes and should not be considered an official border demarcation.
In an interview with ISNA, Pourjamshidian explained that due to geographical challenges, the wall may not align perfectly with the actual border in certain areas. He stressed that the Taliban needs to understand that this wall is not a definitive border marker but is intended solely for security.
Pourjamshidian stressed upon the importance of coordination and dialogue between Iranian and Taliban experts to resolve these technical differences.
Iran initiated the border wall project with Afghanistan to address security threats posed by insurgent groups and to manage the influx of Afghan migrants.
Recently, Kiumars Heydari, Commander of Iran’s Ground Forces, announced that 50 kilometers of the border wall have been completed. He expects that by the end of this year, 100 kilometers of the project will be operational.
