UN: 30 Million Afghans in Need of Humanitarian Assistance
Tawazon – The United Nations has warned that climate change is worsening humanitarian crises in conflict-affected and fragile states, with Afghanistan among the hardest hit.
According to the UN’s latest report on the link between climate change, peace, and global security, 13 countries most vulnerable to climate impcats, including Afghanistan, Sudan, Yemen, and Somalia are also facing conflict and instability.
Decades of war, poverty, and environmental challenges have left Afghanistan on the brink of catastrophe. The report notes that prolonged droughts, flash floods, and desertification have devastated agriculture and livelihoods, leaving around 30 million Afghan , over two thirds of the population dependent on humanitarian aid.
The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has warned that the situation will worsen in coming years, potentially fueling further conflict nd displacement.
The UN called on the international community to strengthen climate resilience and provide greater support to vulnerable countries to prevent the escalation of humanitarian and security crises.
