Taliban Says Pakistan’s Non-Cooperative Attitude Led to No Outcome in Istanbul Talks
Tawazon – Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid has blamed Pakistan’s stance for the failure of the second round of talks between Kabul and Islamabad, held recently in Istanbul.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Mujahid said the Taliban delegation joined the discussions “with the hope that the Pakistani side, after consulting its officials, would approach the issue seriously and constructively, with a responsible attitude, and present realistic and implementable demands to reach a fundamental solution.”
However, he added that “the Pakistani delegation attempted to refer all responsibilities regarding its security to the Afghan government, while at the same time it did not demonstrate any willingness to assume responsibility for either Afghanistan’s security or its own.”
Mujahid described Pakistan’s position as “irresponsible and uncooperative,” saying it prevented the talks from reaching any outcome despite mediation efforts byother countries.
He reiterated that the Taliban government will not allow anyone to use Afghan territory against another country, nor will it permit any country to use its territory to take actions against or support actions that undermine Afghanistan’s national sovereignty, independence or security.
Mujahid also referred to the people of Pakistan as Afghanistan’s brothers, saying the Taliban remain open to cooperation within “legal and national limits.”
