UNICEF: Returnee Numbers Through Spin Boldak Crossing Continue to Rise
Tawazon – The number of Afghan returnees crossing through the Spin Boldak border in southern Afghanistan continues to rise, with thousands of families arriving daily, said Tajudeen Oyewale, UNICEF Representative in Afghanistan.
He noted that many returnees are facing urgent humanitarian needs, including access to healthcare, clean water, sanitation, an protection services for children.
UNICEF and its partners are actively providing critical support to these vulnerable families.Health services, safe water and sanitation facilities, and child protection programs are being delivered to ensure the well-being of returnees.
UNICEF’s Representative in Afghanistan emphasized the organization’s commitment: “We are working tirelessly to provide essential services and protection to returning families particularly children, to help them rebuild their lives safely and with dignity.”
This comes as the forced deportation of Afghan refugees from Iran and Pakistan continues to escalate in recent days.
According to Taliban controlled media, 1,984 Afghan families returned to the country yesterday alone, while nearly 3,000 refugee families returned into Afghanistan two days earlier.
