Pakistan to Send Delegation to Kabul Amid Rising Tensions with the Taliban
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur announced that the Pakistani government is sending a high-level delegation to Kabul for discussions with the Taliban following internal consultations.
In an interview with Geo News on Thursday, February 6, 2025, Gandapur stated that Taliban officials have welcomed the visit. He further revealed that after the initial talks, a jirga would be formed, comprising tribal representatives from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Addressing recent tensions, Gandapur referred to the killing of the son of the Taliban’s deputy governor for Badghis in a clash with Pakistani forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He criticized the Taliban for failing to take concrete measures to prevent terrorist activities originating from Afghan soil.
These remarks come at a time when Pakistan was once seen as a key supporter of the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan. However, relations between the two sides have increasingly soured, particularly over the issue of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), leading to heightened tensions.
