Afghanistan’s Saffron Production Rises to 41 Tons This Year
Tawazon – Afghanistan’s saffron production has increased significantly this year, reaching 41 tons, according to Sadrazam Usmani, Deputy Minister at the Taliban’s Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock.
His remarks came during the opening of the 10th Saffron Exhibition held in Herat province, the country’s main saffron producing region.
Usmani said saffron cultivation has grown by 12% compared to last year. He added that the ministry is working to expand saffron farming through technical support, cash assistance to farmers, irrigation projects, and training programs to improve both production nd quality.
Although Afghan saffron is known globally for its high quality, exports continue to face major obstacles, including weak marketing, financial limitations, transport challenges, and lack of modern packaging.
Experts say that safer transport routes, better packaging, meeting international standards, expanding logistics networks and providing financial support to farmers could boost exports and strengthen Afghanistan’s position in the global saffron market.
