Taliban Reacts to Indian Strikes on Pakistan, Calls for Restraint and Dialogue
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has expressed concern over India’s recent strikes on Pakistani territory, describing the escalation as detrimental to regional security.
In an official statement released by the Taliban government, the ministry said that the growing tensions between India and Pakistan are worrying and that further deterioration of the situation does not serve the interests of the region.
The statement called on both countries to exercise restraint and resolve their disputes through diplomatic dialogue and mutual understanding.
This response comes in the wake of India’s announcement that it targeted nine locations inside Pakistan which, according to the Indian Ministry of Defence, were linked to the planning of a recent deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir.
In response to the strikes, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that Indian forces had targeted five sites within Pakistani territory. He warned that Pakistan would issue an appropriate response.
Meanwhile, Indian media reports claim that between 80 and 90 militants were killed in the strikes.
As tensions mount between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, regional and international actors are urging de-escalation and a return to dialogue.
