OCHA: Taliban Interference Causes Delays in 56 Humanitarian Projects in Afghanistan
Tawazon – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that 56 humanitarian projects in Afghanistan faced delays in January due to Taliban interference, significantly affecting aid delivery to those in need.
In its report released on Tuesday (February 18), OCHA highlighted that the delays ranged from 1 to 30 days, with nearly half (48%) of the projects still suspended.
The report attributed the delays to violence against humanitarian workers, interference in aid distribution, damage to assets, and restrictions on movement.
OCHA documented 87 cases of Taliban interference last month—a 14% reduction compared to the 136 cases recorded in December 2023. Despite the decrease, Taliban interference continues to have severe consequences for the delivery of humanitarian aid to vulnerable populations.
Additionally, OCHA raised concerns about the arrests and detentions of humanitarian workers in the region.
