New Zealand Secures Victory Over Pakistan in Champions Trophy Opener
In the opening match of the Champions Trophy, jointly hosted by Pakistan and the UAE, New Zealand defeated Pakistan by a margin of 60 runs.
New Zealand set a challenging target of 321 runs, which Pakistan failed to chase, managing only 260 runs before being bowled out in 47.2 overs.
Tom Latham was the standout performer for New Zealand, scoring an unbeaten 118 runs, while Will Young contributed 107 runs. On the Pakistan side, Khushdil Shah top-scored with 69 runs, and captain Babar Azam added 64 runs.
Tom Latham’s impressive performance earned him the Player of the Match title.
Tomorrow, Bangladesh and India are scheduled to face each other in the UAE as part of the tournament.
Afghanistan, participating in the Champions Trophy for the first time, will take on South Africa on February 21. The Afghan team is grouped with Australia, England, and South Africa in Group B.
