Macron: France Will Recognize the State of Palestine
French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that France will officially recognize Palestine as an independent state.
In a statement published on his official Facebook page on Thursday, July 24, Macron shared a signed declaration, emphasizing that the move is aimed at fostering peace in the Middle East.
He stated that France’s decision will be formally presented during the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly, scheduled for September.
Macron also called for an immediate end to the ongoing war in Gaza, stressing: “The urgency is today for the war in Gaza to end and the civillan population to be rescued. Peace is possible.”
“There is an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages and massive humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. We must also guarantee the demilitarization of Hamas, secure and rebuild Gaza. At last, it is necessary to build the State of Palestine, ensure its viability and allow that by accepting its demilitarization and fully acknowledging Israel, it participates in the safety of everyone in the Middle East”, he added.
Reaffirming France’s commitment to peace in the region, he underscored the urgent need for a ceasefire and reiterated that France will work closely with Palestine, Israel, and its European and international partners to help pave the way for a lasting resolution in the Middle East.
