U.S. Airstrikes in Yemen Kill 31; Houthi Rebels Vow Retaliation
Sanaa, Yemen – , United States conducted extensive air and naval strikes against Houthi positions in Yemen on March 15, 2025, resulting in at least 31 deaths and over 100 injuries.
The strikes specifically targeted radar installations, air defense systems, missile launchers, and drone facilities controlled by the Iran-backed Houthi group. The operation came in response to recent Houthi attacks on commercial and military vessels navigating the Red Sea, a crucial global trade route.
The U.S. government stated that the strikes were aimed at ensuring the safety of maritime traffic and deterring further Houthi aggression.
President Donald Trump emphasized that the action also serves as a warning to Iran to stop supporting the Houthi movement. This military campaign represents one of the largest American operations in the Red Sea region in recent history, with significant involvement from the U.S. Navy.
In response, the Houthi rebels strongly condemned the airstrikes, labeling them an act of “war crime.” Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree vowed retaliation, announcing that their forces would continue to target American and allied ships in both the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The Houthis also stated that their military actions are linked to their support for Palestinians amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The situation has raised serious concerns among international observers, who fear a further escalation of violence in the region. Neighboring countries and global organizations have called for restraint to prevent a wider conflict.
