Hamid Karzai Calls for Urgent Aid to Flood Victims in Afghanistan
Kabul: Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has extended his condolences to the families affected by the recent devastating floods in Helmand, Farah, and Kandahar provinces. He has called upon humanitarian organizations, charitable foundations, and NGOs to provide urgent assistance to the flood-affected communities.
Recent reports indicate that severe floods have resulted in the deaths of at least 36 individuals and injuries to 40 others across various provinces, with women and children among the victims.
The floods have also destroyed over 240 homes and damaged an additional 61, displacing numerous families and causing extensive damage to infrastructure.
In Farah province’s Pushtkoh district, flash floods claimed the lives of 23 people and injured 44 others, including many women and children.
Similarly, in Kandahar province, at least 9 individuals, among them three children, lost their lives due to heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding.
Local residents have appealed to Taliban authorities, international agencies, and domestic relief organizations for urgent aid, including shelter, medical assistance, and food supplies.
Provincial Taliban officials have warned that the number of casualties may rise as rescue and recovery operations are still underway.
The floods follow weeks of heavy rainfall and snowfall, which had been predicted by Afghanistan’s meteorological department.
