Former Punjab Chief Minister: Pakistan Could Destroy Kunar River Dam with One Bomb

Tawazon – Pakistani political analyst and former caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Najam Sethi said that Pakistan would destroy any dam built by Afghanistan on the Kunar River with a single bomb.
In an interview with Samaa TV, Sethi described the idea of Afghans building a hydroelectric dam on the Kunar River as unrealistic, claiming the Taliban lack both the funding and the technical capacity to carry out such a project. He said there was “no need for Pakistanis to worry,” and even if construction began, “it would take 10 to 15 years to complete and Pakistan could eliminate it instantly with an airstrike.”
Sethi alleged that the idea of building dams had been encouraged by India, saying, “The Taliban neither understand dams nor can they build them. Afghanistan is not India, if India’s dams were bombed, it would respond with bombing. But Afghanistan cannot. The easiest way is to drop a bomb, and the project will be delayed for another decade.”
His remarks came after the Taliban’s Ministry of Energy and Water announced that the group’s leader had ordered the immediate launch of construction work on the Kunar River hydroelectric dam, with contracts to be finalized with domestic companies.
Taliban Energy and Water Minister Abdul Latif Mansoor emphasized that “this water belongs to Afghans and will be used for our own benefit.”
The planned dam is part of the Taliban government’s effort to increase domestic electricity production and reduce dependence on imported power. Afghanistan currently faces a serious electricity shortage, particularly during winter, and imports a large share of its power from neighboring countries including Iran, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
