Attack in UNAMA Office: Source: Taliban Attacker Killed
Tawazon, Kabul: A source within the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), speaking on condition of anonymity, told Tawazon that all UN-related offices in Kabul, including UNAMA, remained closed today following a security incident.
According to the source, a Taliban security guard opened fire at a security post of the UN offices in Kabul on Sunday, February 2. The attacker was killed, while a UN security guard sustained injuries.
The United Nations and Taliban-affiliated security agencies have launched an investigation into the incident. The source further stated that UN employees were not permitted to enter or leave their offices today.
Earlier, another source within UNAMA reported that shots were fired at the northern gate of the UNAMA compound last night, leading to the restriction on staff attendance.
The Taliban has yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack on the UN offices’ security post in Kabul.
