Afghan Woman Appointed to Denmark’s Cabinet
Tawazon – Samira Nawa, an Afghan-born politician, has been appointed as Denmark’s Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities.
Nawa, a member of the Danish Parliament and a prominent figure in the Social Liberal Party, joined the new coalition government led by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
Born in Denmark to an Afghan family, Samira Nawa has served as a member of parliament since 2019. Before her appointment she was her party’s spokesperson on climate and energy issues.
As the new minister, she is expected to oversee Denmark’s policies on renewable energy, greenhouse gas reductionand the country’s green transition agenda.
Her appointment comes as Denmark continues to be recognized as one of Europe’s leading countries in clean energy development and efforts to combat climate change
