Hamid Karzai Thanks UK for 1.1 Billion AFN Aid to Afghan Refugees

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Sunday expressed his appreciation to the United Kingdom for extending new humanitarian assistance valued at 1.1 billion Afghanis (approximately £12 million) to support Afghan refugees.

In a brief statement posted in Pashto on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Karzai wrote, “I express my gratitude and appreciation to the United Kingdom for its new assistance of 1.1 billion Afghanis to Afghan refugees.”

The statement comes amid ongoing humanitarian challenges faced by Afghan refugee populations both inside the country and across the region. Millions of Afghans remain displaced in neighboring countries, including Pakistan and Iran, while thousands more continue to face economic hardship and limited access to basic services within Afghanistan.

While the UK government has not yet officially detailed the allocation of this aid, it is expected to support critical sectors such as food security, shelter, and healthcare for displaced Afghan communities.

Karzai, who has remained in Kabul since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021, continues to play a vocal role in advocating for humanitarian support and constructive international engagement with Afghanistan.
