Taliban Announce Official Recognition by Russia
The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims that Russian Ambassador to Kabul, Dmitry Zhirnov, informed Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi of Moscow’s official decision to recognize the Taliban government.
According to a statement released on Thursday, July 3, Amir Khan Muttaqi met Dmitry Zhirnov in Kabul.
Both sides described the move as significant and called it a key step toward strengthening bilateral relations between Kabul and Moscow.
Nearly four years have passed since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan, but until now, no country had officially recognized their rule. Russia’s recognition marks a major shift, setting it apart from regional, Islamic, and Western nations that have so far refrained from taking this step.
