Retired Indian General: If Delhi decide to take occupied Kashmir by force, will take ‘us back many years’

Tawazon – Yashpal Singh Mor, an Indian Retired General said that if Delhi intends to take Pakistan Occupied Kashmir by Force, it will take India back “many years”.

Speaking in Raj Shamani’s Figuring Out, he said that fighting a war in this area will result in catastrophic losses.

“Wars are very costly. Fighting a war on the hills today. If you say to take back some area of POK or entire POK will result into catastrophic losses in human and capital,” he said.

He also warned that any war will affect the GDP of India, criticizing the Modi government of taking political advantage of tensions between India and Pakistan.

“Suspension means that flow of waters cannot be stopped. It only means that bilateral visits are suspended i.e. visits of Pakistani officials who are part of treaty for inspection of dams are suspended,” he said.

According to him, the Indus Water Treaty is not a bilateral treaty and that the World Bank is a guarantor to it and it took 9 years to conclude. India cannot do anything to it at its own, he said.

“And the most important thing, if we do this to Pakistan today, China will do the same with us tomorrow. Can we afford this?” he said.

The tensions between India and Pakistan have raised after Modi’s government take restrictive measures against Pakistan following an attack on tourists in Jamu and Kashmir.

Some opposition parties are in India are criticizing the Modi government, saying that it has been playing a fooling policy towards the public as ceasing the Indus water will take over 20 years to be completed through construction process.

The tensions between the two sides equipped with the nuclear weapon have also caused concerns among the regional countries.

Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi meanwhile reiterated support to their long-standing ally Pakistan. He said that China fully understand Pakistan’s concerns for security of its sovereignty.

The Indus water treaty was signed in 1960 in Karachi Pakistan.
