Hamas Rejects UN Resolution Calling for Deployment of International Forces in Gaza
Tawazon – Al Jazeera reports that Hamas has rejected a new United Nations Security Council resolution that calls for the deployment of international forces in the Gaza Strip.
According to the report, Hamas described the resolution as insufficient, saying it does not meet the rights of the Palestinian people and could pave the way for what it called “international guardianship” over Gaza.
The group stressed that any international proposal must be based on ending the war, ending the occupation and ensuring the Palestinians’ right to self-determination.
The development comes after the UN Security Council on Monday, 17 November, voted on a proposal put forward b U.S. President Donald Trump. The resolution passed with 13 votes infavor and 2 abstentions.
According to the adopted resolution, international forces would be deployed to “provide security for civilians and create conditions for stability.”But Hamas argues that such a move could undermine Palestinian sovereignty and ignore the realities on the ground.
