Islamic Organizations Welcome Ceasefire Agreement Between Taliban and Pakistan
Tawazon – Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has welcomed the diplomatic efforts of Qatar and Turkey that led to a ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and the Taliban during negotiations in Doha.
According to The Gulf Times, Albudaiwi said on Monday, October 20, that the Gulf Cooperation Council supports all initiatives that contribute to peace and promote dialogue within the region and beyond. He added that such efforts can pave th way for a more stable and prosperous future for the people of the region, calling the agreement a positive step toward building trust and strengthening stability between Pakistan and the Taliban.
Meanwhile, the Muslim World League (MWL) also welcomed the signing of the immediate ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and the Taliban. In a statement issued by its General Secretariat, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL, praised the agreement of both sides to establish practical mechanisms aimed at consolidating lasting peace and stability through dialogue.
He emphasized that this step will protect both countries and their people from the dangers and consequences of armed conflict reaffirming the MWL’s full support for the ceasefire initiative.
The second round of ceasefire talks between Pakistan and the Taliban is expected to be hosted by Turkey in Istanbul. Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif stated that the upcoming meeting in Istanbul will focuson practical mechanisms and continued implementation of the agreement.
