Afghan Girls’ Education Campaign Relaunched Amid Ongoing Ban

Afghan Girls’ Education Campaign Relaunched Amid Ongoing Ban

Tawazon – Nearly four years have passed since the Taliban closed the doors of schools and universities to Afghan girls. Yet, global efforts to support their right to education have not stopped. In this context, the Education Cannot Wait fund has relaunched its previous campaign titled “Afghan Girls’ Voices” through social media.

Originally launched in 2024, the campaign amplifies the voices of girls who have been denied education but continue to have hope. Through written messages, audio recordings, and videos, it highlights the courage and resilience of Afghan girls who, despite living under the shadow of a harsh educational ban, remain steadfast in their desire to learn.

The campaign underscores a powerful message: “Every girl deserves safety, opportunity, and hope through education, no exceptions.” It reinforces the universal nature of education as a basic human right, not a political privilege.

The renewed campaign features support from four key international actors: the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the UK Foreign Ministry, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These institutions, along with the “Education Cannot Wait” fund, have reiterated their commitment to Afghan girls’ education, not merely as a symbolic gesture, but through tangible financial, policy and diplomatic backing.

While no official announcement has been made regarding a formal relaunch, the renewed circulation of campaign materials indicates that this movement is still alive. It aims to once again draw global attention to the plight of Afghan girls.

Since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, girls above the sixth grade have been banned from attending school. Over time, restrictions  expanded to include universities, private educational centers, and international scholarships. These policies have cast a dark shadow over the futures of millions of Afghan girls and triggered widespread concern both domestically and globally.
