Qatar Calls for Urgent Global Aid to Afghanistan

Geneva– Qatar has urged the international community to expand financial and humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, emphasizing the urgent need for sustained aid. Speaking at the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Qatar’s representative, Mishal Al Mansouri, reiterated the country’s commitment to stabilizing Afghanistan through mediation and aid programs.

Qatar, through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), has been actively supporting Afghan refugees, funding scholarships, vocational training, and financial aid for Afghan artisans—especially women—to promote economic self-sufficiency. Additionally, Qatar has played a critical role in hosting diplomatic negotiations on Afghanistan, furthering its position as a key regional mediator.

Despite global relief efforts, Afghanistan remains in crisis, with nearly 22.9 million people—almost half its population—requiring humanitarian assistance, according to the UN. Food insecurity affects 14.8 million Afghans, while 7.8 million women and children need urgent nutrition support. The economic downturn, combined with restrictions on women’s rights and limited access to education, has worsened living conditions.

Qatar has called for humanitarian aid to be delivered without political conditions, ensuring effective distribution to those most in need. The country reaffirmed its stance on inclusive development and long-term stability, urging international cooperation to help Afghanistan overcome its challenges.

Qatar has also previously collaborated with countries like Indonesia to provide scholarships for Afghan students and continues to work with humanitarian organizations to address healthcare, shelter, and food security needs
