Over 5,500 Migrants Returned to Afghanistan in a Single Day
Tawazon – More than 5,500 Afghan migrants returned to the country yesterday, according to media reports under Taliban control.
The Bakhtar News Agency reported on Saturday, May 2, that 5,513 migrants, including more than 1,000 families crossed back into Afghanistan.
The United Nations says that only 11 percent of returnees are employed.
Two days earlier, around 800 families had also returned to the country.
The United Nations says that nearly 2.8 million Afghan migrants returned to the country from Iran and Pakistan in 2025 alone, raising concerns over economic pressure and limited reintegration capacity.
The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat)says that following the return of nearly three million migrants last year, Afghanistan’s population has increased by about 10 percent.
