84% Surge in Iran-Afghanistan Trade Volume in 2024
Tawazon – The Tehran Times has reported a significant 84% increase in trade volume between Iran and Afghanistan in 2024 compared to the previous year, reaching a total of $3.197 billion.
According to the report, Iran has become one of Afghanistan’s main suppliers, accounting for approximately 25% of the country’s total imports. Key Iranian exports to Afghanistan include refined petroleum products, steel, agricultural goods, and construction materials.
Out of the total bilateral trade volume, $3.143 billion represents Iranian exports to Afghanistan, an 83% rise compared to 2023. Meanwhile, Afghan exports to Iran have also shown notable growth,increasing by 116% to reach $54 million.
Economic experts note that the rising trade between th two neighbors not only strengthens economic and political ties but also has the potential to expand markets for local products and help reduce prices in both countries.
Despite the growth, Afghanistan’s exports to Iran remain largely limited to raw materials and agricultural products.
