Xi Jinping’s Visit to Russia for Soviet Victory Anniversary Signals Diplomatic Support for Putin
Tawazon- Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Moscow to attend the 80th anniversary celebrations of the former Soviet Union’s victory in World War II.
On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed Xi Jinping at the Kremlin for talks that Moscow hopes will provide critical diplomatic support for Putin amid a sensitive phase of the war in Ukraine.
According to international media reports, Xi’s participation in the Soviet victory celebrations is highly significant for President Putin, as it sends a message to the world that Russia is not isolated.
The Kremlin announced that, alongside Xi Jinping, 28 other world leaders will also attend the event in Moscow, which it described as a sign of Russia’s global influence.
This marks Xi Jinping’s 11th visit to Moscow, during which he is also expected to hold discussions on energy cooperation and other key issues.
China remains Russia’s largest trading partner and has provided an economic lifeline, helping Moscow withstand the pressure of Western sanctions. China imports more oil and gas from Russia than any other country.
