PTM Senior Member Ali Wazir Re-Arrested Shortly After Release
Sources have confirmed to Tawazon that Ali Wazir, a senior member of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), was re-arrested on Thursday, January 30, shortly after being released from prison.
Hanif Pashteen, a fellow PTM member, told Tawazon that Wazir had been granted bail and was assured by Pakistani authorities that he would be released by the evening. However, he was taken into custody again soon after his release.
“There is no evidence of any crime committed by Ali Wazir, yet Pakistani police repeatedly arrest him after each release,” Pashteen stated. “He is being transferred to unknown locations. This is an injustice not only to Ali Wazir but to all Pashtuns.”
Ali Wazir, a prominent voice in the PTM, has spent a significant amount of time in prison. He was arrested on August 3, 2024, at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad and had remained in detention until his latest release and subsequent re-arrest.
