Taliban Reports Attacker Killed in IED Explosion in Takhar
Taliban officials in Takhar report that an attacker was killed while attempting to plant an improvised explosive device (IED) in Taloqan, the provincial capital.
According to Mohammad Akbar Haqqani, head of the Taliban’s media office in Takhar, the incident occurred today (Saturday, January 25, 2025). Haqqani stated that “Ghulam Mohammad,” a resident of Farkhar district, tried to plant an IED on a Taliban military vehicle, but the device detonated prematurely, killing the attacker.
Meanwhile, local sources claim that three Taliban members were injured in the explosion. However, Haqqani did not comment on whether any Taliban personnel were harmed in the incident.
No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the explosion so far. However, the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan frequently claims responsibility for attacks targeting the Taliban in the northern provinces.
