World Bank Resumes Operations in Afghanistan
Tawazon – The Taliban’s Ministry of Finance says the World Bank has officially resumed its payment process for projects and contracted companies in Afghanistan.
According to the ministry’s statement, a special World Bank technical team reviewed the payment system in close coordination with relevant departments of the ministry and has now reactivated the flow of funds.
The Ministry of Finance says the World Bank has restarted payments for suspended projects and contractor companies after the Bank’s monitoring team (TPMA) and the ministry reviewed and finalized all required documents.
According to the sstatement, the World Bank owes nearly $45 million to contractors. This amount will be paid in four phases in coordination with the Ministry of Finance.
The statement says that in the first phase, the World Bank will directly pay $9.3 million to international contractors.In the second phase, which has already begun, $16.8 million will be paid to companies through the Ministry of Finance. The remaining payments will be released in th third and fourth phases, following the established schedule.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Finance called the World Bank’s decision an important step that strengthens confidence and supports the continuation of Afghanistan’s development programs.
However, the World Bank has not yet released an official statement regarding the issue.
