Afghanistan-China Celebrate 70 Years of Diplomatic Relations
Kabul, January 20, 2025 – Afghanistan and China marked the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations with a vibrant ceremony in Kabul.
The ceremony was attended by key figures, including Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, the political deputy foreign minister of Afghanistan, and Zhao Xing, the Chinese ambassador to Kabul. He Also highlighted the significant progress in Afghanistan-China relations, especially since the Islamic Emirate took power three years ago. He assured Chinese investors of a safe and welcoming environment in Afghanistan, emphasizing the country’s commitment to nurturing these ties.
Stanikzai also called on neighboring countries not to allow their territories to be used against Afghanistan’s security and respect Afghanistan’s sovereignty and avoid interfering in its internal affairs.
Chinese Ambassador to Kabul, Zhao Xing, reiterated China’s unwavering support for Afghanistan’s independent and self-reliant development. He expressed optimism about the potential for practical cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including trade, infrastructure, and cultural exchanges.
“I hope the friendship between China and Afghanistan will remain as stable as the deep color of lapis lazuli,” he said. “I hope the people of the two countries remain united like pomegranate seeds. I hope the future of our countries will be as colorful as the saffron blossoms.”
The diplomatic relationship between Afghanistan and China dates back to 1955, a time when the world was undergoing significant geopolitical changes. China was among the first countries to recognize Afghanistan’s sovereignty and establish formal diplomatic ties. This historical context adds a layer of depth to the current celebrations, highlighting the resilience and continuity of their relationship.
In recent years, the relationship between the two countries has seen renewed vigor. China was the first country to appoint an ambassador to Afghanistan following the rise of the Islamic Emirate in 2021.
